A Landscape Challenge

After a visit to an art shop picking up materials for some recently commissioned work, I couldn't resist picking up a large canvas and setting myself a challenge. Having no idea or plan on what to paint I just chose a colourful palette of colours and started a base coat and the rest is what follows.

I never was much of a painter and with no previous desire to paint I guess I have surprised myself. I had done a few still life classes at art college which included sketching and painting objects and then moving on to life models. With a love of colour and a techinque I have picked up along the way, I decided to try something a little different....a landscape.

The painting details a scenery of Dovedale, a beautiful place that holds fond memories and a silhouette of the city to which has been my home for the last couple of years. In the painting there are hidden meanings and references close to my heart. I have taken photos of my step by step progress from start to finish. I have also complied a short video of my documentation which I will upload very soon.

Spring is in the air

The sun is peeking from the clouds, the flowers are blooming, birds are chirping and the days are brighter. Spring is on it's way and I'm preparing new items for spring/summer from ceramics to apparel. Watch this space for what I am making in the studio and check back on my blog to see my exciting designs.

In the mean time I thought I would show off my Jugs :) Don't they look lovely filled with flowers? I think these would make any mum happy this Mother's Day.

Spring time sunshine

The sun is shining and spring is on it's way. Looking forward to feeling the sun upon my face, the smell of fresh flowers blooming and grass being cut. My inspiration and ideas are flowing from my sketch book as I write to you in my blog.

I am currently in the studio in my spare time creating new products for this spring/summer and can't wait to get back into screen printing. As well as a new range of baby grows, I will be looking at creating an adult range of t-shirts fingers crossed.

It is all go...ready for some events this year. Lets hope this is the year I finally come into full bloom. Keep following my adventures and share with your friends :)

A design for life

There are two sides to my creative story, on the one side is the illustrative bespoke handmade designs and items, the other side is graphic design and branding. My portfolio consists of logo designs, flyers, brochures, leaflets, invitations and business cards.

A few samples of my work from baby shower invites, branded business cards and logos that I have been comissioned to produce. I am looking forward to rebranding my website very soon with some new work. Keep you posted.......

In the studio

Back in the studio and I began by working on a few new things thats include a new design that I will illustrate on to a range of products as well as getting arty on canvas. First off I went straight into the studio and created my new range as a test sample. Unfortunately the test piece misfired in the kiln so I will be going back into the studio next weekend to do a stock of my design ready for revealing before the months out. Oh well that's an artists life when these things happen.

Being back in the studio is a great feeling with the music on and sketch book and paints out. So my next project consisted of a large scale canvas painting. I am aiming to do an exhibition this year and working on a range of pieces. Blank canvas at the ready, a stock of paints and brushes to get me started. After putting together an idea, I began my lastest creation. My idea is a landscape mixed with the city using a selection of bright infused colours and mixed mediums. I will post my designs very soon. In the meantime keep following my work :)

Start of 2015

We begin with a new year and welcome 2015. Bear in Mind Design ended the last year with new products and two successful craft events in Derbyshire. This year will hopefully hold much more success and hopefully more opportunties.

Getting back in the studio today, I have began the creation of my new design which I hope to turn into a range of products over the coming year. I also have a few more designs for my illustrated ceramic collections and more designs for my baby wear which will expand into more products. All exciting stuff.

I am looking at getting more of my wares into stockists this year as well so I can get a wider audience reach. I will let you know the progress of this. In the meantime I am re-desiging the website and doodling to my hearts content. I hope you will stick with me to watch my progress and keep your eyes out for my new work.

Happy 2015!!!

Things to come

Hello...

I just want to say thank you to all my followers, supporters and customers. It has been a year of tears, hopes, dreams and wishes but I have picked myself up and dusted off the bad times. Running your own business is never an easy one and you have to put in a lot of time, effort, sweat and tears to get somewhere in life. I have not long settled in Derby and finding where best to sell my wares has just begun. Having recently exhibited with Sheena Hollands Markets, I have found a gem in which I hope I can grow from. I will hopefully be doing more fairs in the future.

In the meantime now Christmas is fast approaching, I will be hanging up my craft stalls until the spring. I will be looking at putting together some new ideas and ranges for the new year. My handmade items will be available to purchase from my Etsy shop....

My website is being currently being updated so bear with me as I will be having my new work uploaded and new features. You can still access my website if you wanted to take a peek :)

Having had such good feedback from the last few events, it is always lovely to see people smile and admire my work as they stop by my stall. All the hard work that goes into handmade arts and crafts is sometimes unforgotten and unnoticed. It is always lovely to see so many faces who take the time to talk and buy items no matter how small.

In the meantime, there is still time to purchase gifts for christmas including handmade items and cards. I look forward to any comments below and your support in the new year.

Merry Christmas from Bear in Mind Design
